Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Advising and Student Success

Navigating the Seas of Adversity
In 2001, I had the good fortune of sailing around the world with 650 students as Assistant Dean for the Semester at Sea program. Our voyage’s challenging events gave everyone in our shipboard community an extraordinary opportunity for growth, grit, and a “pivot” toward possibilities – despite adversity.

Dr. Ken Baron is Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Advising and Student Success. In his 17th year of service at UMBC, he leads and manages academic advising practices as an administrator and a practitioner. Before coming to UMBC, Dr. Baron held diverse leadership positions at various institutions, including Emory University, The College of New Jersey, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Semester at Sea, and the American InterContinental University in London (now Regents University).
