All Regular non-exempt employees (other than law enforcement officers) are required to join the Maryland State Retirement Teachers/Employees Pension System (MSRPS) immediately upon employment. Regular law enforcement officers are required to join the Law Enforcement Officers Pension System (LEOPS). Regular Exempt staff and faculty may elect to join either MSRPS or the Optional Retirement Program; retirement election is permanent and irrevocable. Please see the following memo regarding recent (7/1/2017) law changes with respect to retirement election. Contingent employees are not eligible to join a retirement program, other than Supplemental Retirement.
