Special Non-Exempt Pay Categories

The following are guidelines to assist managers with decisions related to special pay actions that may occur as part of or outside the classification process:.

Shift Differential: paid to non-exempt employees working in certain designated positions who are regularly scheduled to work during the second or third work-shift. Shift differential pay is a flat rate paid as part of regular hours worked, and is considered as part of the overtime calculation if the total hours worked in a week exceed 40. Refer to the HR Time and Leave Reporting manual for detailed information regarding jobs designated for shift work and shift calculations.

On-Call Pay: in certain situations non-exempt employees may be required to be available to return to work after a normal workday. If the employee is called-in, a minimum of 3 hours for each instance is added to the total hours worked for the week. Refer to the HR Time and Leave Reporting manual for detailed information regarding on-call pay calculations.
