UMBC adheres to the compensation philosophy established by the Board of Regents of the University System of Maryland (USM). As such, there are various policies under which classification and salary decisions must be made. In keeping with established BOR policies, the bargaining unit Memoranda of Understanding for nonexempt (AFSCME) and university police (FOP), UMBC also utilizes various salary and wage data from federal, state, local, regional and nation-wide surveys to attract and retain a talented workforce. The following presentation outlines the basic foundation and resources utilized by HR Classification/Compensation staff in consideration of position review and wage administration.
